Sharing the Success of Inspirational Women in the South West

Our Owner and Funeral Director Amanda-Louise Knight who owns 2 business in Somerset has made it through to the semi-finals of the prestigious West Country Women Awards 2022. With over 1,000 nominations across the 15 categories, the Judges then whittled it down to 90 women who won the semi-finalist titles.

The categories include Women in Tech, The Phoenix Award, Women in Health, Best Supporting Act, Diversity & Equality, Combating Violence, Women in Construction & Property, and many others, and the event so far has raised over £45,000.

Amanda-Louise was delighted to hear she had been selected under The Small Business Award. She said "Im honoured to have been recognised and was really surprised as we have so much talent across our regions of women in business. I was nominated by a business who saw my passion for delivering services that offered choice, and not always doings whats easy or always done it that way. Thats because my fundamental belief is we are all unique, so should are funerals be. Of course I honour tradition, but for those who want something different, we can devise new traditions too!"

Alexis Bowater OBE, journalist, broadcaster and women’s campaigner, and award-winning business woman Tess Stuber are the Co-founders and Directors of West Country Women Awards CIC. They said, “From all walks of life, every corner of our communities, our goal is to celebrate the achievements & triumphs of women across the region”.

"It was quite a surprise to hear the news" said Amanda-Louise "there are so many talented females in business across our region, I felt overjoyed to hear I'd been placed. Setting up this new business hasnt been easy, but Ive worked hard, trained and had generous support and encouragement from Nick Friendship Funeral Director, Ive been able to look after people as Id like to be when the time comes, or my children too. Its taken about a year, the office has been found and furnished, and the website is being worked on to provide free advice and support as well as clear information about services and costs. After all, we're a nation that doesnt talk about death and funerals, so when it happens, it can be overwhelming not knowing who to turn to, or what to do. So the business model is to start slow and have a down to earth approach."

The selection process asked many thought provoking questions of the nominees. These included diversity and inclusion, achievements and failures, the impact of community engagement and adaptions in direction or strategy made in the last few years were among the criteria to be met for The Small Business of the Year Award. Amanda-Louise was recognised with her other business Amanda-Louise Weddings, Proposals and Events, her first business that focuses on providing the perfect celebration events across the West Country and the UK.
